The Interview

1. Tell us about yourself and your work.
I am a young adult fantasy/romance author and the hostess of Quirky Questions Interviews on my blog. My current work is the Ember of the Planet trilogy. Books one and two are out, book three is on its way! The story follows Ember, an unexpected savior looking to save her planet from the hands of the evil Pathfinder.
 2. Do you have any unusual creative habits?
When I write, I like to wear a lot of rings. One or two on each finger. I have no idea why. I think it helps me focus. They’re just fake, cheap rings, with the exception of my wedding ring, of course. Otherwise that would be an expensive habit.
3. Do you read your book reviews? How do you deal with bad or good ones?
I do. Book reviews are extremely helpful, both good and bad. They give you a clue into what readers are liking or not liking about your work so you can adjust your writing as you go. If you’re going to be a writer, you have to have a thick skin. Everyone will get a bad review at some point. That’s okay. You cannot please everyone. Above all, never lash out or comment on negative reviews. In fact, I don’t believe in commenting on reviews at all, good or bad. Let people have their opinion and let your work speak for itself.
4. If you had to describe yourself using three words, what would they be?
Shy, quirky, and devoted.
5. What is your favorite quote?
“In painting, you have unlimited power. You have the ability to move mountains. You can bend rivers. But when I get home, the only thing I have power over is the garbage.”
This is a quote from painter Bob Ross, but it applies to writers as well. There is so much power in writing. Coming back to reality is like waking from a good dream by falling off the bed and hitting the cold wood floor.
6. If you were a character in an action movie, do you think you would survive? Why / why not?
I actually might! I would be that girl from the Hunger Games that won her round because she hid until everyone else died. I’d be cowering in a tree somewhere. Sad, I know. This is why I write, people! When I write, I’m Katniss.
7. If you could be a character in any novel you've ever read, who would you be and why?
Claire Fraser!! From Outlander. She’s awesome. She is strong, confident, and a skilled physician. She is sent back in time accidentally to 18th century Scotland and ends up marrying a Scottish laird named Jamie. I would battle through any time period for Jamie Fraser in a kilt.
