GUEST POST: AUTHOR JOANNA WHITE

About the Author

Joanna White earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Creative Writing for Entertainment at Full Sail University. The Valiant series is her first published work, which first started off being updated on a website called Wattpad. She lives in the country of Missouri with her husband, where she continues to work on her other upcoming books. Writing has been a passion since she was ten, when she wrote her first book. Ever since then, writing has become her life outside of her family, God, and being a nerd.

Joanna's Guest Post:

How many of you feel as if God is calling you or maybe God’s given you a gift that you’re unsure about using? What’s holding you back? Is it the fear of failure or rejection? Maybe you don’t feel worthy to serve God or maybe you have other ideas for things you’d rather do with your life. Maybe it all seems too daunting.

I’m sure you’ve heard this quote before: “God doesn’t call the qualified. He qualifies the called.” This means that God will use you, every part of you, for His will. He will even use your weaknesses for His Glory and He can because He’s God! How amazing is that? Maybe it’s refreshing to hear He’ll use your weaknesses or maybe it’s terrifying.

If God gave you a special gift, a talent, then you need to use it. The Bible says if we don’t use the gifts God gives us then we will lose it. It’s just like if you play an instrument and you don’t practice for a while, you’re bound to start getting rusty at it. Because things like that take practice, so if you don’t practice…

Likewise, you need to exercise the gifts and talents God has provided to you. More than that, each of these gifts and talents are pieces of God’s personality. God is infinite, which means He also has an infinite personality. Why are puppies playful? Because God is playful. Why do birds sing? Because God sings. Why are bears strong? Because God is strong. Why are deer graceful? Because God is graceful.

“But my talent doesn’t have anything to do with God! I’m just a” (fill in the blank). That was my exact thought when God was teaching this to me. “What? I’m just a writer. What does that have to do with God?” I asked.

Then, He gave me a revelation about Himself that I hadn’t ever realized before. Jesus was a storyteller. He told parables to the people and one day, when His disciples asked Him why He taught people in stories like that, He told them that it was easier for people to understand.

Ever since I’ve wanted to become a writer and turn my passion into a career, I wanted to become an author to inspire people. I want to give them books and stories they can delve into and know that they’re reading the truth. I want people to be able to learn more about God and the Bible and how truly amazing He is from my books and yet still be able to read something that they love and can enjoy.  The entire Valiant Series I wrote, starting with my debut novel, Hunter, which is coming out April 30, parallels with the Bible. Hunter parallels with the story of Moses. Underneath all the fantasy, action, drama, tragedy, romance, and more, it displays many truths: Moses and how he doubted himself, but God chose him anyway; how God used Moses’ weaknesses and Aarons talents and strengths to free the Israelites from slavery. It shows how we are lights in the darkness and that God will never leave us, and it also hopefully reminds the readers to have hope no matter how terrible things get.

So my gift of writing, my passion for it, my desire to give people a great book to read and enjoy that shares truths about God and His Word, stems from Jesus’ aspect that He is a storyteller. That’s why, when I write, I feel so connected to God, because it’s something special that we share together.

“Yeah,” you may say, “but my talent isn’t writing. What about mine?” Well, no your talent may not be a gift of writing, but that’s why it’s so amazing because your talent makes you unique and it’s what connects you to God!

Maybe you’re an artist. God’s an artist too. He paints sunsets and sunrises each and every day. Maybe you’re an architect or designer. Look at this vast and wonderful world God designed! Maybe you sing; so does God and you can use your voice to sing praises to Him. Maybe you have a gift of prayer or caring for others. Jesus took care of others when He walked the earth. Maybe you love animals. God created the animals and even created Adam to care for them directly. God cares for the birds and in the Bible it talks about how He makes sure they’re all fed, so how much more will He take care of you? Maybe you dance. Zephaniah 3:17 says that God will rejoice over you with singing. David also danced before the Lord.

Whatever your talent is, God gave it to you and He did so for a purpose. What is it? You may not know yet and that’s okay, because when it’s the right timing, God will reveal it to you. He will give you all you need to do His will and fulfill His plan for your life. Try to remember that God knows everything, so He knows what’s best for you. His plan is so much better than anything you or I could ever imagine for ourselves. Ephesians says that God can do far more abundantly above all that we can ask or think according to the power at work in us.

What are the talents that you have and how do you think God could use them through you for His Glory? Take some time to think and pray about this today.

Want to know more about Joanna's upcoming release? Here is Hunter’s synopsis:

A reckless young woman named Averella does what no woman has ever done.

She disguises herself as a man and purposefully gets herself arrested and thrown into Zagerah. Her brother Gabriel was taken, and with his disease, he will not survive on his own. She has no idea what to expect inside the prison; all she knows is that once men get taken, they never come back.

The Hunters will find her.

Genetically altered to be faster and stronger than humans, the Hunters use their powers to find and kill every prisoner who enters Zagerah. The only ones who can defeat them, are in fact, themselves.

Jared is a Hunter. It’s all he’s known, all he remembers. He kills ruthlessly and without regret, one prisoner after another. When a new prisoner Dalex shows up, everything begins to change. Jared goes undercover to make Dalex and the other prisoners believe he is one of them, a prisoner himself.

No one knows the truth.

He will trick them.

Toy with them.

Then, he will kill them.
